Yoga and meditation is my #1 go-to stress reliever

I have significantly reduced my caregiver stress by taking 30-45 minutes out for myself every morning, sitting in quiet meditation, followed by gentle yoga.

I am 53, disabled myself from a near fatal car accident and live with chronic neck pain. I am also a caregiver for my 92 year old mother and my 20 year old son with chronic depression and memory deficits.
Until I made it a priority to take time out every day for my mental and physical health, I struggled caring for myself, let alone 2 other adults in the same household. My pain was unmanageable, I was angry and irritable all the time, and as a result we all suffered.
If you've ever flown on a plane, recall the flight attendants informing the passengers that in the event of low cabin pressure when oxygen is needed, always place it on yourself first before placing it on a person needing help getting the mask on.
If you are a caregiver experiencing a great deal of stress, I really recommend you take whatever time you can spare using it productively on the floor in meditation and downward dog!
