Dating Someone with Status 2 Down Syndrome

by Lea

I am just falling in love with a man who says he has Status 2 Down Syndrome. I am glad that he felt comfortable enough to tell me, but I don't know what all that means. When I ask him, he says that he just processes things more slowly, like reading comprehension.

I want to marry him, so I want to know all about his disease so that I will know how to best be there for him. And to be very blunt, I want to mainly make sure that I don't do or say anything that may trigger some type of incident.

Please help! Our future happiness depends on it.

Editor's Note:
First of all, congratulations on finding someone you care for. Nothing beats falling in love!

Don't worry about doing anything that will cause "an incident" - that is simply not an issue.

Hopefully, other will chime in with their experience, but I don't know of any reason why you should hesitate in pursuing this relationship.
