The Murders in CT

This recent story about Adam Lanza, age 20 who gunned down 20 elementary school kids and the allegation that he had a personality disorder or some type of Autism makes me very angry. The kids with Autism that I know including my son, can hardly function let alone premeditate carrying out and execute a mass murder...

this correlation will further stigmatize our kids, which is a further tragedy..

Sometimes there is a link between autism and violence
by: Editor

I understand your concern - and I am sure that a lot of people would agree with you.

But it is also true that our children with autism can sometimes explode with emotion, and are capable of hurting other when they do.

You may find it interesting to read what other families have experienced.

One thing that stands out is that the violent behavior may not kick in until puberty.

Violence and Autism
by: Anonymous

I am very aware of the potential for violence with Autism, as I have experinced this first hand. The difference in my opinion is in premeditated violence vs. reactive. The man in CT that killed his mother, with her own guns no less then drove a car to the elementary school and aimed and gunned down those children and teachers while wearing military garb is very differnet from the reactive violence and tantrums that serve Austic young people often exihibit, and is very concerning that this killer is being referring to as Autistic. As Dr. Sanja Gupta stated "there does not appear to be a link between premediated acts of violence and Autism" and I agree with that statement.
