Boy with Down Syndrome playing Reading Game with his teacher

IS IT OK FOR DOWNS SYNDROME CHILDREN TO DEVELOP READING AND WRITING SKILLS AFTER 6 YEARS , WILL IT EFFECT THEIR DEVELOPMENT????????????

I have a six years old son with down syndrome........he is all ok toilet trained, can do his daily activities like brushing, taking bath and having food by himself .

But the problem is he still needs my help in writing alphabets.

Verbally he speaks our mother-tongue with sentences having two or three words .......and english too but more of understanding than talking.but he is good in coloring and says all basic nursery rhymes with ease......

Is it ok if he develops his writing and reading skills now ..........is it late...........will he be able to read and write ???i m so worried as a mother??? please help
