Entertainment options are another excellent use for picture communication cards. Before these custom picture cards, we used to lay out out sorts of video covers all over the furniture, and he would look at them to choose what he wanted. More often than not though, his lack of motor control meant that he was knocking all of the covers off the furniture instead – and we still didn’t know what he wanted. Now, he just goes over to the video card display board, examines the pictures of each video, and hands his choice to us. Clothing choices are another great use for picture communication cards. Ideally, take a photo of the clothing item while he’s wearing it. Alternatively, we recommend taking the photos of clothing choices using his bed or room as background, so that he can make the personal connection. Don’t forget to include shoes, socks, pyjamas and outer-wear too. Favourite toys and games are also likely to become favourite picture communication cards. And don’t forget to create picture cards for any special equipment that is used, such as a walker or wheelchair. There is no end to the ways you can use custom picture communication cards.
