Dealing with disability and a disaster

The National Research Council released a report last month that finds local governments ill prepared for evacuating people with disabilities from a disaster, even though this is required by law (since Katrina). People with disabilities need to be included in emergency evacuation plans.

The report also finds that transit could be a big help in evacuating people with disabilities in time of emergency, however, urban areas have not incorporated transit into their planning.
